It began with my lovely old Heintzman piano.
This big upright furniture piece that never needed tuning was taking up half my apartment, and I didn't have time to play any more. It was time for a new home. I had tried to sell it, to give it away, but no one wanted it. It's too big and heavy. It needed to go! Hmm.
What are my alternatives? I could take it apart - after all, it's made of wood, and I'm a woodweaver. I did my homework to learn how. It can be dangerous with so much tension on the strings. I listened to the guy who fixes pianos, as his objective is to take it apart carefully, not to break anything or anyone. Two days later I had a lot of pieces and a new appreciation of why a piano is so heavy. I saved all the wood and now am making new things with it. What a way to upcycle!
